[picture] The economy of the Hinchinbrook region is based predominantly on sugar cane cultivation and milling, with subsidiary benefits coming from cattle raising, small cropping, tourism and fishing. The cyclic nature of the world sugar supply and prices highlights the problem of a region being heavily reliant on one industry. Here in Hinchinbrook, we seek to share the many natural attractions in the area by actively promoting tourism. This has helped to provide stability to the local economy, through an increase in alternative employment opportunities and injections of investment funds, in a community normally reliant solely on the sugar industry.
